The Faraway Paladin Codexery

First Paladin

The reincarnated boy who forged a sacred bond with the Goddess of Light to protect the living.

William G. Maryblood, known as Will, is the central paladin figure of this world, having formed a sacred contract directly with Gracefeel, the Goddess of Light. Unlike the legends of a solitary predecessor, Will is a reincarnated human from Earth who retains memories of his past life. His role as a paladin is defined not by inheriting a formal order, but by his personal bond with Gracefeel and his journey to protect the living from the lingering threats of the undead and the Demon High King's seal.

Lore & Background

Will is a human boy reincarnated from Earth, retaining full memories of his previous life. He was raised by three undead—Blood, Mary, and Gus—who had made a contract with Stagnate, the deity of the Undead, to guard the seal of the Demon High King they failed to kill. Will's path as a paladin began when he formed a contract with Gracefeel, the Goddess of Light, who is the daughter of Mater (goddess of the earth and child-rearing) and Stagnate (god of the Undead). Gracefeel guides souls of the dead back into the cycle of rebirth using her lantern. Will's story is one of personal growth, devotion, and duty; his relationship with Gracefeel is one of deep faith and devotion, not a romantic confession that is rebuffed. There is no mention of a formal Paladin Order founded by a predecessor, nor a spirit merged with sacred energy in a spectral holy land.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled through the ancient ruins, carrying whispers of a time before the current era. In the center of the clearing, where the light of dawn first broke through the eternal gloom, a translucent figure stood guard. He wore armor that seemed forged from starlight and memory, untouched by rust or decay. Though no living eye could see him clearly, his presence was felt as a warm, steady resolve against the chill of the monster-infested night. He watched over the sleeping land, waiting for the next soul pure enough to carry the torch he had lit so long ago.

Reader's Guide

The First Paladin serves as the spiritual archetype and historical foundation for the entire order of paladins in this world. His character arc is one of ultimate sacrifice; rather than seeking glory or power for himself, he dedicated his existence solely to securing a future where others could live without fear. His powers were legendary, granting him abilities far beyond mortal comprehension, likely including high-level light magic and the capacity to purify corruption instantly. However, his defining trait was not his combat prowess, but his unwavering faith and compassion. He established the doctrine that a paladin's strength is derived from their love for humanity. His most significant moment was the establishment of the Holy Land as a sanctuary, creating a safe haven that allowed the remnants of civilization to survive until the next generation could rise. His legacy lives on through Will, who inherits not just his title, but his spirit and purpose.
